A group of students from The University of Tokyo visited RIKEN Office during their Overseas Experience Program in Singapore. RIKEN Singapore RO Director Tsuzawa lectured about Singapore and RIKEN’s R&D activities. They had a lively discussion on various topics after the presentation.
August 16-26, 2018
From August 16 to 26, RIKEN participated in the “Thailand National Science and Technology Fair 2018” exhibition in Bangkok, the country’s largest science and technology fair of the year. It was visited by more than 1 million people; most of them were Thai students. RIKEN joined the fair as a part of Japan Pavilion. RIKEN booth featured introduction of RIKEN national science institute and programs for young researchers as well as RIKEN’s research collaboration with Chulalongcorn University in Thailand, and besides ordinary visitors, was visited by several VIPs from Thai science and research institutes and Japanese Embassy in Thailand.

RIKEN Singapore Office Director Tsuzawa was invited to deliver a lecture on the overview of RIKEN to the young researchers from SMART at NUS CREATE campus on 30 July. There is a strong interest from the participants in RIKEN’s diverse range of scientific disciplines as well as the programs for foreign researchers.

On June 5 and 6, RIKEN participated in the “innovfest unbound 2018” exhibition, an innovation festival which was said to be the largest in Southeast Asia and was held as part of the Smart Nation Innovations Week, at the Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre in Singapore. RIKEN’s booth was part of the Japan Pavilion sponsored by Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO).
RIKEN’s booth highlighted RIKEN’s “Baton Zone” collaborative projects with industrial partners. One of the partners is euglena Co.,Ltd. which set up another booth next to RIKEN booth at this exhibition. During the two days, not only did we have researchers and personnel from Singapore and global companies visit our booth, but many representatives of Japanese companies located in Singapore came by. Many active discussions took place, including requests for information on collaborative research and technology transfer with RIKEN.

RIKEN Singapore RO Director Tsuzawa visited research related institutions in Bangkok: Chulalongkorn University, National Science and Technology Agency Development Agency/National Nanotechnology Center (NSTDA/NANOTEC) and Kyoto University ASEAN Center. They discussed further collaborations between RIKEN and the institutions.

A group of students and teachers from Seifu Nankai Senior High School in Osaka, Japan visited RIKEN Office for their Overseas Fieldwork. This is the school’s second visit to our office. RIKEN S’pore RO Director Tsuzawa talked about RIKEN and Singapore’s scientific R&D activities and policies as well as his overseas experience.
